More than 200 years of research and teaching make Graz University of Technology one of Austria’s most venerable scientific institutions. The University’s success throughout its eventful history has been based upon the achievements of outstanding personalities in science, research and their application. Richard Zsigmondy, who received the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1926, worked as an assistant and adjunct lecturer at Graz University of Technology. Names such as Herbert Eichholzer, Hans List, Otto Nußbaumer, Friedrich Mohs, Anna-Lülja Praun, Friedrich Schmiedl, Nikola Tesla or Ferdinand Wittenbauer account for the excellent reputation of Graz University of Technology in the past and present.


About the city

Graz is one of a handful of European research hotspots on electronic-based and vehicular systems with numerous leading research centers and companies. Graz is the capital of the federal state of Styria, which is one of the European top research regions with about 5% of the gross regional product being invested in R&D. Graz is also the second largest city in Austria, it is a young and lively city with more than 50.000 students situated at the south-eastern foot of the Alps. It enjoys an almost Mediterranean climate & lifestyle and its medieval old town (one of the largest and best-preserved in central Europe) is a UNESCO world heritage site. The city itself has a very high quality of life, and offers plentiful recreation opportunities.

Travel

If you arrive by plane, the most convenient way to reach the conference venue from Graz Airport is by taxi. The fare is about EUR 35, and the trip takes approximately 30 minutes.

Trains from Graz Airport to the main railway station “Graz Hauptbahnhof” depart every 30 minutes. The station is a 100-meter walk from the airport, and the fare is EUR 3.

The closest public transport station to the venue is “Schulzentrum St. Peter” accessible by tram line 6 which also stops at “Graz Hauptbahnhof” and the central transfer point, “Jakominiplatz.” Graz is a relatively small city, and rides usually take less than 20 minutes.

There are no parking spaces available on the premises (only short-term parking zones in the vicinity). Therefore, we strongly recommend traveling by public transport.
